REAL ROOM TOUR: OLLIE’S MINIMALIST NURSERY

Fair to say I am more than a little excited to share Ollie’s gorgeous, minimalist nursery.

Created by his Mum, Jessica Stojanovska of Little Ollie, this cool and calm, minimalist nursery ticks all boxes. Stylish, practical and space that will easily adapt as Ollie grows.

I simply love it.

Read on as Jessica shares her tips on achieving a minimalist nursery.

TELL US ABOUT THE OWNER OF THIS ROOM:

Ollie, an energetic soon to be ONE year old needed a calming space to unwind and relax. His life (outside of his nursery) is quite loud and colourful, enjoyable for a baby on the move, but I had to make sure that his nursery was different to that. Juxtaposed to his play time, this space needed to be light and calming, a space where Ollie would feel comfortable to sit and enjoy reading quietly before dozing off to bed.

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS:

I started @littleollie_ while on Maternity Leave. I wanted to share my journey with others and chose to do so via Instagram. I’ve used this platform to not only publicly share Ollie’s room, but to provide others with one on one styling advice, to help piece together their dream room. I really enjoy having this avenue to express my creativity and I hope that It’s helped others to build their dream room too.

WHAT WAS THE BRIEF FOR THIS ROOM?

This nursery needed to be minimal and modern – I wanted it to flow with the rest of the house.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION?

The stunning ‘Cloudy Days Wall Mural’ from Rocky Mountain Wall Decals inspired the room. I think it’s important to work around an item that you have absolutely fallen in love with and can’t go without.

HOW DID YOU SELECT YOUR COLOUR PALETTE?

As much as I adore grey and white, if I was going to keep the room simple, I definitely needed a pop of colour. Ollie was my inspiration because what is more beautiful than those baby blues? I found it hard to pull back wanting absolutely everything from the Numero74 range at leoandbella but opted for a few ice blue items for that POP! I really love this colour, it changes throughout the day. Ice blue in the morning and a moody grey when the sun starts to drop. It’s absolutely perfect for someone like me, who struggles to commit to the same colour choice for too long.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FEATURE IN THE ROOM AND WHY?

My favourite part of this room is the play mat. I’ve gone from rug, to play mat, back to rug and now back and here to stay with our littlewiwa play mat! This is the safest option for our little explorer and aesthetically pleasing too (bonus!) We spend all of our time in here, sitting down and bonding, creating memories that will last a life time.

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE CREATING A MINIMALIST NURSERY?

Over crowding. There are so many wonderful businesses flooding my Instagram home screen. When I found out I was pregnant, I purchased EVERYTHING! While I had everything a baby could ask for, I soon realised I had much more than a baby actually needs! I’m so happy to have found mybubbabox, a toy based subscription service that selects the best suited toys to enhance physical and cognitive development based on Ollie’s current age. It’s the perfect way to update the nursery without having to think about it at all! So in the true words of Marie Kondo “Choose what you want to keep, not what you want to get rid of” and that’s exactly what I did. Now, I have everything I love in one small space!

WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL FAVOURITE THING ABOUT THIS SPACE?

I really love the minimalism of this space, but I made sure to tune into Ollie’s likes and interests (that being birds or anything in the sky, really) and chose to include a @tamarmorgendorff Swan from @hellolittlebirdie. I love that it adds a WOW factor, but still keeps the space quite refined.
