Tell us a little bit about Ruby Rabbit Partyware and how you came about?
‘Ruby Rabbit started from my love of parties and entertaining. I spent many years heading up the events at a major Sydney entertainment venue which I loved to bits! Eventually the time came to move onto something of my own and I decided to start a party shop, sourcing the very best in kids party supplies. We love to be first to stock new releases in Australia and we are always hunting the latest trends for the #partyshop. I still squeal with delight when I find amazing new products for my customers!’
What are the challenges of owning an online business?
‘Online means open 24/7 and with that comes enquiries and messages 24/7 so at times this can be challenging to manage because I don’t like to keep customers waiting for assistance.’
What is one piece of advice you wish you knew prior to starting your business?
‘I’ve realised how important it is to have your own style and be consistent with your brand. When first starting out, I remember being asked ‘what’s your point of difference?’ At the time I wasn’t really sure how to answer that. Now I want people to identify Ruby Rabbit just by looking at a photo and they know our style. Our brand style is bold and playful displaying the very latest worldwide trends in party styling.’

WHAT ARE THE “MUST-HAVES” FROM RUBY RABBIT WHEN PLANNING A BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR KIDS?
‘A party is not a party without balloons! They are such a cheerful decoration to include and bring a smile to everyone’s face. For this reason we have a huge range of options like the giant balloons which can be combined with our colourful balloon bouquets, plus it’s fun to add in novelty shapes like rainbows, unicorns and zebras and of course we love big foil number balloons. The more the merrier!’
please share some of the hot trends and party themes for this year?
‘Streamer walls and fringed backdrops are one of the strongest trends this year. For girls our most popular colours in party decorations are pink, peach and coral. Girls are loving swan, pastel and fairy parties. For the boys we are seeing jungle, dinosaur and superhero parties as some of the latest faves.’
What are your top tips when hosting children’s parties to avoid the overwhelm on the big day!?
- Get organised early! Start 1-2 months prior when planning your theme or look.
- Choose 3 core colours – helps to keep it simple when choosing supplies and decorations.
- Take a step back – enjoy your creation with family and friends on the big day.
Do you have some clever ideas on theming a party whilst minimising waste and being sustainable?
‘Some of our pretty paper decorations such as fan sets, pom poms and garlands are easily reused as bedroom décor after the party. Most of our paper goods and packaging are recyclable and our big range of latex balloons are 100% biodegradable.’

‘I love Instagram for visual party inspiration! Some of my faves are @ohhappyday, @aww.sam and @partywithlenzo‘
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
‘Seeing the party pics from our amazingly talented customers is the most wonderful part of my job. There’s some truly talented Mama’s out there creating incredible parties for their kids.’
What’s next for ruby rabbit partyware?
‘We have extended our range to include a wider selection of event and wedding supplies. With Easter only a few weeks away we are selling out fast of the cutest ever Meri Meri range. The bunny ears are a must-have and the treat bags for egg hunts or gifts are simply adorable!’
