Minty Magazine Real Room Tour: Indi's Whimsy Toddler Room

Talk about a scroll stopper. This room, honestly, gets me every time. Created by the super talented Raffaela Jenkins of Indi & Bear, the whimsy, dreamy style captures my imagination and draws me right in.

But it’s more than just a beautiful room for her daughter, Indi. Much more. It is detailed and thoughtful. It oozes love. And it’s a perfect balance of scandi style and vinatge vibes.

We caught up with Raffaela on how she overcame the challenge of creating a versatile, styled space on a limited footprint, to create this gloriously warm and welcoming room.

TELL US ABOUT THE OWNER OF THIS ROOM:

‘I created this room for my daughter Indigo Rose. Indi is 2 and a half.
Indi has a kind, natured little personality and loves the outdoors.
When venturing out she loves to explore, collect rocks and always picks flowers where ever we go. So when I saw the floral wallpaper from Minnie and Me Interiors I instantly knew I needed it for Indi’s room.

When designing Indi’s room it was important to include small spaces for her to play and to relax and have downtime in. A reading nook was at the top of our list, a place where she can have quiet time and also read together as a family before bed. I also wanted an area for her to play. Often I will find her with her dolls, role playing. Therefore to encourage that imagination I wanted to include an area for play. Other essentials were a free standing wardrobe, as her room does not have any built in robes, so storage was a must!’

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS:

‘Indi and Bear began when I started sharing my love of children’s clothing, interiors design and product styling.

From sharing my passion, I started developing relationships with brands and also received a lot of interest for children’s bedroom creation assistance. Therefore at the start of this year I started offering product styling, interior design and photography services.’

Interior design has always been a passion of mine, and after designing Indi and Ollie’s nursery, this passion has only grown and I have loved being able to let my creative juices flow.

I love the design process sourcing the products and then seeing it all come to life.

WHAT WAS THE BRIEF FOR THIS ROOM?

‘I wanted a space that was functional but also fun, young and allowed Indi to dream. It was important to create a space that was whimsy but that had my own personal touch. I love scandi interiors, but I’m also a big lover of colour and vintage pieces. Indi’s room ticks all of these.’

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION?

‘I get a lot of inspiration from Pintrest and other Instagram pages I follow. But I also from art and furniture. Once choosing these pieces it usually gives me a good idea on style, colour and overall feel for the space.’

HOW DID YOU SELECT YOUR WHIMSY COLOUR PALETTE?

‘I love neutral tones, however being a lover of colour, I wanted to choose tones that were calming yet sweet. Therefore I chose dusty pinks, blues and whites.’

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FEATURE IN THE ROOM AND WHY?

‘Oh this is a tough one. I have a few. My favourite would have to be the wallpaper, yet I do love the bed drape too as it creates that whimsy feel that I love so much for a girls room.’

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

‘Space. Indi’s room is quite small, so I didn’t want the room to feel over styled or cluttered. Key pieces I chose first. Bed and wardrobe and then other pieces were purchased afterwards once I knew how much room I had to work with.’

WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL FAVOURITE THING ABOUT THIS SPACE?

‘My favourite thing about this space would have to be the different ways she can use it. Its not just a room for sleep, but an area she loves to read, play and spend down time in.’
