A Timeless Classic Bedroom

The thing about classic design is that it never goes out of style. Just ask Interior Designer, Victoria Waters who created a feminine, sophisticated and serene bedroom for her daughter, Isla. When planning this special space, Victoria enlisted the help of her daughter to select the wall colour which fortunately happened to be her top pick too. With a stunning chandelier from her previous home, Victoria curated a selection of timeless furniture pieces that come together perfectly in this classic girls bedroom.

Tell us a bit about your daughter Isla and her requirements for the bedroom?

“Isla is a very creative child. She was very much involved in the design of her room, choosing her own fabrics and wall colour. She is also a budding artist and insisted on a desk overlooking the garden where she could bring her creativity to life.”

What was the brief for the room?

“Isla has a twin brother Mac so this would be the first time she had her own bedroom. The brief was ‘a pretty girl’s room’. I wanted the room to have a sophisticated, feminine feel and something she could grow into without being too pink.”

You recently completed a huge renovation, tell us a bit about your home?

“Yes, this is my biggest project to date @sthcoogeebeachhouse, a classic coastal style home. I like to design interiors that are not only beautiful but will withstand the test of time. Our home draws on inspiration from East Coast American style homes and Australian Queenslanders. After 4 years of planning and designing every last detail, our dream home has become a reality. I’m also excited to be working on another classic Hamptons style home which is due for completion later this year.”

What was your inspiration for this bedroom?

“The crystal chandelier was the starting point for this room. We had brought this chandelier from our previous home so it had a sentimental factor. I love the elegance of chandeliers, particularly in girls bedrooms.”

How did you select your colour palette?

“I provided Isla with a selection of colours and this was the one that she chose, Porter’s Petal Pink. It’s important to include children in the selections for their room and this special client was no exception! The wall colour evokes a feminine feeling that I love too, it has a very soft, calming vibe.”

What is your favourite feature in the room and why?

“The crystal chandelier is a real focal point and it casts a beautiful light around the room. It’s the perfect spot to curl up with a book. Isla really loves her comfy reading nook.”
