Creating Balance – Vintage Style with Scandi Practicality

Ever impressive Elise Grossman has created yet another beautiful space for her middle child, two year old Xander. The recent arrival of Xander’s baby sister prompted a room reshuffle. In turn, an opportunity for Elise to put her design skills to work once more. Xander’s new bedroom is a delightful fusion of vintage and modern scandi. It gives the room a light-hearted, playful feel, a core goal of Elise’s design. “I wanted the room to be very inviting and cosy, a space that was practical and had a good balance of vintage and modern.” Says Elise.

The Perfect Vintage Colour Palette

Elise worked with existing wall colour, Grainger by Dulux, to bring existing furniture together with new décor. With neutral tones as a backdrop, Elise added a new olive green bedspread from I Love Linen. She then added pops of red in prints and toys, such as the wombat with kite print by Violet Eyes, to lift the room into the playful zone. These colour highlights work effortlessly with the wooden furniture. A particularly spectacular feature is the stunning vintage bed that Elise found on Gumtree!

Room to Play

For Xander’s play interests, Elise ensured the floor space was aplenty so that train and car tracks could be easily assembled. To help Xander feel comfortable in his new room, Elise cleverly included a wooden mini name plaque and a mini initial banner, from Zilvi. These special touches no doubt give Xander a strong sense of belonging. The sophisticated yet playful colour palette chosen for Xander provides plenty of room to grow, as Elise predicts “I can see him being an older child and still loving it all just as much as he does now!”
