The gorgeous, free-spirited ten-year-old Stevie dreamed of a chilled out room with sweet pastels and a touch of glam. She wanted space to relax, do homework and, most importantly, hang with her friends.
The Designer
Introduce Tess Beagley of Minted Interiors and a beautiful, bright and whimsical space is born. Tess worked with Stevie’s mum Karla to create a room that would immediately capture Stevie’s heart. And be trendy enough to take her into her teenage years. Tess designed according to the brief. To create a magical space for Stevie that reflected her free-spirited and sweet nature. That would take her through her teenage years. And provide practical places to sleep and study.
Tess explained “I really wanted to deliver a room quite different. Something clean and crisp, a little fun and sophisticated at the same time to match her age and personality.”
The Brief
The room incorporates pops of gold metallic accents softened by an endearing pastel palette in shades of blush, aqua and lilac which is bang on trend. Tess says the “pastels suit her sweet girly nature and the metallic adds some sophistication to the space.”
The Pastel Bed
The hero of the room is definitely the stunning Incy Interiors Rose Gold Eden bed. A simple but elegant duvet cover with matching pillow cases were selected to let the bed shine. A throw and euro cushion by Sage & Clare, and the velvety gorgeousness of the penny round cushion by Rachel Castle & Things on the bed, create layers and depth while introducing clean, complimentary colours. As Tess illuminates “Those soft pastel tones against the rose gold bed make the space feel so fresh.”
The Desk
A practical and inviting study space was a must for Stevie as she moves onto high school. The stylish desk from Green Cathedral is made all the more inviting with an on-trend, but necessary desk lamp by Milk & Sugar and divine blush pink wall shelves by Rose in April to store Stevie’s treasures. Tess reflects “The desk, chair and shelving have converted the area into a practical study space for Stevie.”
The Challenge
The biggest challenge of the room was utilising and styling the area under the long high windows. In order to use every space in the room, a bench seat, where Stevie could sit and read a book, or where friends could hang out, offered the perfect solution. Bunting from Twiggarie Twig, a glam heart sequinned cushion and fur-look throw make the space irresistible to Stevie and her friends.
Designer Tess, and most importantly Stevie and family, were thrilled with the final result – testament to Tess’s dedication to working closely with her clients and producing completely personal design concepts.
