REAL ROOM TOUR: ELLA’S SPACE SAVING SCANDI ESCAPE

Our little loves growing up is inevitable… it is exciting, terrifying, unknown and incredibly joyous all at once right? For those us who love Scandi decorating there is one fabulous sure thing… we get redo the room! Basically as often we like… yay!

We were delighted catch up with Amanda Lee, owner of Interior Motives Aus, and share her daughter Ella’s room with you here. As Ella grows, her taste is changing. Amanda took this opportunity to create the ultimate Boho Scandi vibes in a room that provides the perfect balance of play and chill for 5 year old Ella.

TELL US ABOUT THE OWNER OF THIS ROOM:’

‘Ella, 5 years old, is our bubbly and lively ball of energy that loves life and having fun! I often find her with paper & sticky tape making some kind of crafty creation while singing away to herself! Especially at night time – she loves to sing herself to sleep!’

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS:

‘At Interior Motives Aus we create Scandi inspired homewares such as leather & timber shelving, timber poster hangers and leather drawer pulls. We have also started stocking a range of baskets, hooks and other items for the home. I started the business 3 years ago whilst being a stay at home mum with my two girls.’

WHAT WAS THE BRIEF FOR THIS ROOM?
‘The room needed to be:-

  • Fun
  • Colourful
  • Inviting

I wanted the space to be somewhere that Ella would enjoy playing but also be a calm inviting space for ‘quiet time’ or when she needed down time.’

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION?

‘I guess my inspiration came from Ella herself, she has always been a bit of a tomboy but as she gets older she is really starting to become more girly and likes playing dress ups, wearing bows & wants to be like her big sister Ruby! When we did Ruby’s room makeover we included a hammock swing and of course Little Miss Ella wanted one for her room too – that’s where I find her singing away now! She has also just started full time school and lost her first tooth! (according to Ella she’s a big girl now) So her room needed to be able to grow with her.’

HOW DID YOU SELECT YOUR COLOUR PALETTE?

‘I started by selecting the gorgeous floral wallpaper with the burgundy, forest green and mustard tones. That really set the scene for the rest of the room, and by choosing other items to compliment those colours it really bought the room together.’

WHAT’S ON THE WALLS?

‘We have used wallpaper from Luxe Walls before so I knew how easy it was to use and install. This time I had something in my mind for Ella’s room so I was able to custom design the floral wallpaper used in Ella’s room with the help of Luxe Walls and their design team! The same wallpaper is available on their website, it’s removable and repositionable – brilliant!’

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FEATURE IN THE ROOM AND WHY?

‘So much to love but I think the Rattan Petal Bedhead really makes her bedroom extra special, and is such a beautiful feature. Then paired with the timber stump bedside and twinkle lights it’s just perfect for little Ella.’

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

‘The size of Ella’s bedroom is quite small so we weren’t able to add lots of furniture but managed to save floor space by installing a Hammock Swing and using Baskets to store her toy’s. Ella LOVES soft toys, every single one we have ever been given is special to her, even the ones falling apart, so we need A LOT of storage! We have heaps of jute baskets around the home, so whenever I find one of her much loved soft toys on the floor I scoop it up and pop it in the closest basket!’

WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL FAVOURITE THING ABOUT THIS SPACE?

‘I love that every wall in her room has something beautiful and colourful for her to look at when she is in her bed or sitting in her hammock swing.’
