Imogen’s Winter Bedroom Makeover

It’s makeover time for my sometimes-sassy-7-year-old daughter who is growing tired of sharing a room with her little brother. As a way of entertaining her desire for a space of her own, we pulled together a moodboard including some key pieces I’ve been eyeing off lately.

It’s a perk/risk/benefit of the job being surrounded by the most inspiring stylists, cutest bedlinen, coolest artwork and the latest kids trends. Personally, I’m a huge fan of florals and gingham and given that my daughter is merely years away from rejecting my influence, I’m taking this opportunity to make it happen. Designing a winter sanctuary for her that is cosy, comfortable and practical has literally been the highlight of my week! Plus who doesn’t love a makeover?

Wall Decals

Changing the look of a bedroom need not be permanent, with the amazing selection of wall decals available it’s possible to make an impact without even lifting a paintbrush. With minimal effort a wall can be transformed, yet just as easily be removed. Here, we have chosen the scalloped arches decal from Pickawall to create a bedhead. Initially, I selected pastel pink but Imogen’s preference was for pastel yellow! The best thing is the decals are easy to apply and can be reused over and over. An affordable and quick way to update the look without costing a fortune.

Bed Linen

One combo I cannot get enough of is floral and gingham. I do love a pattern clash and I feel like these are classic styles that will be be on rotation for years to come. Perennial favourite, Castle and Things can do no wrong in the bedlinen department and this Pansy Linen quilt cover is no exception. Used separately, the quilt can be combined with block colours and the gingham sheet set is basically a neutral – easily paired with so many other patterns or colours. Layers are essential in the cooler months so I’ve added a snuggly wool throw that will provide added warmth and texture to the bedscape.

Wall Art

In keeping with the floral theme, this Daisy mirror from Adairs is not only super cute but handy for Miss Independent who likes to do her own hair. This makeover wouldn’t be complete without a colourful artwork and mood boosting message. This poster from Wondermade is not only a beautiful sentiment but a lovely reminder ‘to be yourself’. Added bonus, it’s a peel and stick decal so no framing or hanging required.

Bedside Storage

I spotted this gorgeous McMullin and Co bedside table at a recent Minty shoot and I am obsessed! It’s playful yet sophisticated and will work perfectly now and well into the future. The natural timber of the teak is beautiful and brings in an element of warmth to the space. Lastly, the Marset Follow Me Lamp from Designstuff will give her enough light for bedtime reading and can be dimmed down (and recharged) when it’s time for lights out.

Floor Rug

With floorboards throughout our house, rugs are an important addition to ground the space and provide that cosy vibe. There’s nothing like the feeling of a luxurious wool rug underfoot and this Shantosha rug from Rugs for Good is a stunning example. Not only are these rugs ethically made, they are made from 100% NZ wool and GoodWeave certified. This one will last for years to come!
