Coastal Classic and Cool Blue

Colour can change the feel of a room instantly, there is no denying how it can impact our mood. The depth of colour in this young boy’s room brings about a sense of calm and designer, Victoria Waters was intentional with her selection explaining “The blue wall colour reflects the colour of the ocean nearby and it creates a cocoon-like feeling in the room. It’s very calming and relaxing in this space.” We love the confident use of colour that exudes balance and a strong sense of style in this Hampton’s style home.

Tell us a little bit about Mac the owner of this room?

“Mac is my 7-year old son, who loves karate, reading and is a keen swimmer. His new room is designed to make the most of the ocean view from his balcony and window, whilst providing space for him to retreat at the end of the day. He has a twin sister Isla and this is their first room apart from each other. It was important that the room reflects his interests.”

What was the brief for this room?

“Our home @sthcoogeebeachhouse has recently been completed after a 4 year design and rebuild. It’s a classic, coastal style home. I wanted to create a classic boys room that would transition easily into his teen years.”

What was your inspiration for the room?

“I always design rooms for children that reflect their personality, whilst retaining a continuation of the design theme throughout the home. Bedrooms with a depth of colour evoke a feeling and this blue felt like walking into a comforting cocoon.”

How did you select the colour palette?

“I selected 3 different blue options for my son to choose from. He settled on Porters Jodphur Blue.”

What is your favourite feature in the room and why?

“I really love the reading nook. The Rattan Pendant above the armchair provides a beautiful light for reading and the comfortable armchair is so inviting. I also love the VJ detail in the wardrobes and the oak painted handles.”
