Today we chat to My Little Giggles, owned by Tammy and Carla. The talented Mum’s met while entertaining their toddlers at a Gymbaroo class back in 2015. Little did they know that their friendship would lead to a business partnership. My Little Giggles offer a stylish range of children’s furniture and accessories designed to enhance learning and education through playtime.

Without further ado let’s find out a bit more about this business and the women behind it! We asked Tammy a few questions, and she has shared her wisdom with us!

Who are My Little Giggles? Please tell us a bit about yourself and how you came about!

‘I had a career in finance and then graphic design, but I’ve always enjoyed taking on DIY projects. I’m a self-taught maker and learned how to operate a drop saw and power tools in my garage! Carla and her daughter came over for a playdate, and she noticed the Learning Tower in our kitchen. It was a lightbulb moment – we could make a business out of selling them! Carla could see how useful the Learning Tower was during playtime. Carla has a background in sales and was the perfect person to start promoting the business. We started to make orders from home, and we were selling via local markets and Facebook ‘buy & sell’ pages. It has grown from there!’

WHAT ARE 3 KEYWORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOUR BUSINESS?

1. Handcrafted

3. Educational

WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES OF OWNING AN ONLINE BUSINESS?

‘Building a presence and brand awareness. The importance of social media has been a real game changer. We learnt how important it was to work with the right brand influencers.’

What is the most rewarding part of your business?

‘It’s so nice when repeat customers recognise us when attending markets and fairs. Knowing that they loved our product is by far the most rewarding part of our job.’

What is one piece of advice you wish you knew before starting your business?

‘With little kids and a business to run, you have to be flexible and get work done when you can! Also, take ownership of mistakes and learn from them to make things bigger and better.’

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR DESIGN PROCESS?

‘Our products have started out in the same way with me drawing up an idea and then building a prototype. I designed My Little Play Bar when I was pregnant with my second child because I wanted a beautiful yet practical play gym for the baby’s playtime. We were keen to expand the range so we took that idea to our existing customers and there was plenty of interest!’

How do you ensure quality in your business and your products?

‘Our manufacturers source the best quality FSC certified timber available. As our products are for children, we need to make certain all materials used are safe. The interlocking frame design on the Play Bar means it doesn’t need screws or glue and it’s painted with a non-toxic oil. All the My Little Giggles timber products are designed and manufactured in Melbourne.’

With such a gorgeous range of products already, what is next for My Little Giggles?

We have some exciting things coming up! Our followers and your readers soon will find out very soon! 2019 is going to be a big year for us at My Little Giggles!’
