Alana and Chris are the friends behind Australian brand Goldie + Ace. Their philosophy centres around sustainable clothing, and the mantra “buy less, wear more and pass it on”. They only use the best quality fabrics for their easy-to-wear range, and close attention to detail ensures clothing that will last.
Inspired after a day spent flicking through family photo albums, the pair took cues from their childhood. Their latest range “Almost Famous” brings us 80’s vibes; think bomber jackets, corduroy and terry-towelling – oh my! Here at Minty, we are obsessing over these images so without further ado…
Who is Goldie + Ace? Please tell us a bit about yourself and how you came about:
‘Goldie + Ace is myself, Alana and business partner Chris. We first met almost 10 years ago at the department store we worked for. I was a buyer and he was the marketing manager and we always said we’d do something together one day. I remember promising each other we’d only travel first class on our buying trips! That always makes me laugh now, how naïve we were! Chris went on to design his own fashion label and start his now hugely successful consultancy business. I stayed in buying until I had my second baby almost 2 years ago, at the same time launching Goldie + Ace. So really, Goldie + Ace was 10 years in the making. Our head office is in Melbourne where I am based and Chris lives in Adelaide so works on the brand remotely.’

I like to think that we are delivering little parcels of happiness to people all across the world every day. We want our customers to love opening our beautifully wrapped parcels and to make the whole experience of owning Goldie + Ace clothing a joyful one.
We love the 80’s vibe of the Almost Famous range. What inspires your collections?
‘For the current collection, we spent a day going through our childhood photo albums for inspo. It was actually hilarious! I will then design all the pieces and work with some very talented local artists on the prints. Growing up in the 80’s we had the coolest clothes. What’s not to love about a bit of nostalgia.’
What are your favourites from the collection?
‘The matching terry towelling tracksuit with gold stripe cuffs is up there, and the gorgeous Harlow knit sweater with an oversized bishops sleeve. We should have made adult sizes!’
What are the biggest challenges of owning an online business?
‘There are so many challenges that face online businesses, many we are still learning about. One is to keep creating new content for our website and social media to keep our customers engaged and loving what we do. We are constantly striving to get better at this. The other challenge facing us right now is reducing our plastic waste. Our commitment is to be plastic free by 2021, this includes all our garment packaging, mail satchels and office stationary.’
WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING PART OF YOUR BUSINESS?
‘Being out and about and seeing a gorgeous babe in our clothing. That is by far the best part.’
We are totally on board with your philosophy of buy less wear more. How do you ensure your products are made to last and become much-loved hand-me-downs?
‘We only work with two manufacturers who we trust and know can manufacture to our standards. We also have really strict quality testing on all garments to ensure they wash and wear well.’
Your bestie is expecting – what do you buy her as a baby shower gift?
‘A day spa voucher and a cocoonababy. 2 things that saved me when I had my first baby! And of course some Goldie + Ace threads.’

‘We did actually make some adult sizes in the terry bombers, they are SO cool! We only made enough for our own team, however you never know, a mini-me range could be fun. Goldie + Ace have some exciting collabs coming up which we can’t wait to share with you!’
