We adore these delicate yet hard-wearing designs. Especially because they can be personalised into a unique keepsake for you and your little ones!

For those who don’t know Bluebird Co already, tell us a little bit about yourself?

“I started Bluebird Co when on maternity leave with my second child – my daughter Pearl. It began with sterling silver beaded jewellery for her to wear. There weren’t any hard-wearing, pieces that could be worn every day that still tied in with fashion trends. Personalisation and the tradition of gifting a keepsake added fuel to my new passion.”

What are your brand’s philosophies and values?

We are motivated to create unique, timeless yet modern designs that can be worn daily. Bluebird Co is committed to working towards ethical production of our jewellery pieces. (Including a very exciting Certified Fair Trade range coming very soon!). We also support the work of Eagle’s Wings, who are assisting children and adults in Ndola, Africa.”

Tell us about the design process and what inspires your collections?

“Often I start with an idea and vision of a new product in my head. I have an artist work with me to get my ideas on paper. Then I take this to my talented artisans who create our samples for us. Inspiration comes from vintage jewellery, our love of the beach, and precious gemstones. My daughter Pearl has been the inspiration behind our growing range of pearl pieces. Our travels to Greece have inspired upcoming pieces in the range.”

What are the biggest challenges of owning a business and being a working Mum?

“Finding my own rhythm is something that has been a challenge for me. With a growing family and the changing needs of our children, So I’ve just adjusted my work hours to fit in with our rhythm.”

What is the most rewarding part of your business?

“The beautiful feedback from our customers is so rewarding. Seeing adults and children wearing our pieces, sharing the sentimental value of a keepsake. That’s so special. Supporting a charity close to my heart in Ndola, Zambia is also very rewarding.”

What is one piece of advice you wish you had known prior to starting your business?

“Good question! Any business advice would have been well received! But I love the creative side of running Bluebird and the business end has been learnt on the go.”

With such a beautiful range of products already, what is coming up in the next for Bluebird Co?

“Thank you, that’s so kind! We are working with certified fair trade artisans to create a new line of personalised bracelets and necklaces. I don’t want to give too much away, but we can’t wait to see these designs come to life. We hope to release them in time for Mother’s Day.”
