A Shared Bedroom for Growing Girls

Designing a shared bedroom can be challenging when it comes to keeping everyone happy! By collaborating with her minis, Mum of two Hannah Goldberg ensured they were thrilled with the result. With a passion for Australian design and supporting local labels, Hannah and her girls have curated a space that showcases homegrown brands. The end result is tailored yet playful, with plenty of room to grow.

Hannah's girls, Raizy (7) and Libby (4)

Tell us a little bit about your girls, their likes and personalities:

“My two girls, Raizy (7) and Libby (4) are complete opposites in both looks and personalities, but absolute besties. Raizy is smart, playful, confident and very bubbly child. Libby is a charming, cheeky and an easygoing little girl. Raizy loves drawing and does weekly art classes, whilst Libby loves to dance!”

What was the brief for this room?

“The brief was about maximising the use of space in the shared bedroom and also ensuring functionality along the way.  Considered use of colour, whilst keeping the room as open, light and airy as possible. Lastly by involving the girls, we were able to create a space together that they love.”

What was your inspiration?

“Libby was ready to move from her cot into a big bed, so we were excited to give the room a fun little makeover. It was very special to give the girls the joy of brand new custom beds from our own range. I am constantly inspired by Australian design, so it was important to showcase some of the incredible local brands and suppliers in their new shared bedroom.”

How did you select your colour palette?

“This was definitely directed by the girls! They wanted new pink beds (which was way out of my comfort zone.) So we worked around the pink beds adding in neutral bedlinen by Abode Living and a modern dots grey wallpaper by Pickawall. Also a custom timber bedside table made to my specifications by Melb Design Co. The result creates a soft, feminine, girly room.”

What is your favourite feature in the room and why?

“It definitely has to be the hidden gas lift feature in the bed frame! I selected the Harper (a Zenn Design best seller), which is a fully upholstered bed for the perfect minimalistic yet kid-friendly design, with an easy gas-lift bed frame feature. This allows for lots of extra hidden storage space which the girls use to store all their toys. Best decision ever!”

What was the biggest challenge?

“Selecting a wallpaper design! I felt the wallpaper could make or break the space and if using wallpaper, it needs to be just right. I am thrilled with the final choice thanks to the team at Pickawall, they were fantastic to work with.”

What is your overall favourite thing about the space?

“I’m most proud of the way we worked with the girls on the room and that it’s all come together so seamlessly. It was fun to have them involved and they are very proud of their shared bedroom, too.”
