A Colourful Nursery – Get The Look

Kayla Louws knew that she wanted to create a colourful nursery for her baby boy, rather than a neutral, white and grey scheme. By opting for bold colour and fun shapes, the Melbourne based Mother of two has created a colourful nursery for her son Hudson that he can enjoy as a toddler and beyond. Starting with a bold feature wall painted in Dulux Classic Calm, Kayla added wall decals from Blond Noir in Animal Spots using complementary accent colours.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

“I absolutely love interior design, but went down the graphic design career path. When I had my first son Kingston I decided to start my own business combining my love of interiors and my design skills and created an online print store, The Poster Co.”

Tell us a bit about Hudson and your requirements for the room?

“Hudson is just six months old but with a big personality already he needed a colourful nursery to match. We wanted a room that would grow with him into a toddler room and then into a big boy room. Our goal was to create something fun, bold and full of subtle colour.”

How did you select your colour palette?

“We started with the panelled feature wall painted in Dulux Classic Calm and added wall decals from Blond Noir to complement it.”

What was your inspiration?

“I always start with my favourite artworks and the rest of the room revolves around those pieces. For Hudson’s room, I was inspired by bold colour, fun shapes and wanted to take a step away from the traditional cream and grey nursery.”

What is your favourite feature in the room?

“Definitely the panelled feature wall. I love the bold colour and it makes such a huge statement.”
