We all love a rainbow right? Even more so when we see it presented in a beautifully colourful boys room.
This refreshing take on a boys nursery was created by Krystal Dahaby of House of Harvee. It is our hero, the iconic rainbow, reinvented in muted tones that sets off this unique room design. The colour palette extends through the statement art, the pimped up Ikea dresser and the seemingly endless, totally swoon worthy toys and accessories.
The modern boho vibes were born through Krystal’s determination to steer away from the classic monochrome style we often see. And the result… pure magic.
We caught up with Krystal just days before her little bundle joined us earth side to get the low down on creating this dreamy nursery.
‘WHAT WAS THE BRIEF FOR THIS ROOM?
‘A baby boy room that could still be quite gender neutral. I wanted to steer clear from the ‘typical’ monochrome boys room.
I love to create something different than what is out there. For my baby boys nursery I really wanted to create a space that would stand out as much as the girls rooms do in my home. However, I made the huge decision this time to NOT include wallpaper so I had my work cut out for me.’
WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION?
‘The sheer curtains from Dollar Curtains and Blinds, plus the camel print I purchased and the fluffy rug were the starting points. I wanted to give a modern boho feel with some colour!’
HOW DID YOU SELECT YOUR COLOUR PALETTE?
‘I knew I wanted to revamp a chest of drawers and paint it a delicious green colour so I would say it started there. Then with the camel print the colours all came together.’
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FEATURE IN THE ROOM AND WHY?
‘I am really proud of the chest of drawers that hubby painted and added new handles too. I LOVE the curtains… and the camel print is just so DIVINE. and the rug!! Ahhh I love it all.’
WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE?
‘The biggest challenge was the high window above the cot. I really wanted to patch over it and get rid of it completely but that wasn’t an option. So we took the architrave off and gave it more of a modern look with the shadow line, which I felt made it look that little more invisible too. Then having the door/windows on the left and a mirrored wardrobe on the right meant I only had 1.5 walls to work with really.’
WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL FAVOURITE THING ABOUT THIS SPACE?
‘The colours. I think the room has such a beautiful amount of colour and they all complement each other so well.’
