The benefit of having a Mum in the interior design industry… lot’s of room makeovers!

This is the third time we’ve shared Minnie’s room…firstly her nursery in our Spring Edition of Minty Magazine and then Minnie’s Pretty in Pink toddler room on the blog. And now, this stunning makeover.

The room designed and styled by Kristy Young of Minnie and Me Interiors showcases her brand new Belle Swan Bleu wallpaper created in collaboration with Little Rae Prints. Belle Swan Bleu is an intrinsically magical painting – both adventurous and calming. It is an endearingly beautiful representation of the balance between our two worlds in childhood (reality & dreams).

We caught up with Kristy to get the low down on this stunning new look for Minnie’s room, the exciting collaboration and her top tips for nailing your own room makeover.

Tell us about the collaboration between Minnie Me Interiors and Little Rae Prints to create this new wallpaper?

Our favourite thing about this business, is meeting and working with Australian artists to create amazing wallpapers. Our aim is to keep creating exclusive wallpapers with beautiful people.  There are so many gorgeous and genuine women on the Instagram, and Summer is definitely one of them.  Her magical artworks have always sung to me, and I’ve used several of her prints in my room designs.   I have also love reading her Instagram posts and have admired her way with words, wishing I could our baby girl’s nursery reveal) and more designs are in the planning stage.

What inspired the change in colour palette in Minnie’s Room?

You will all remember from Minnie’s big girl room reveal that I snuck in some pale blue and mauve, to break up all the pink.  We created our very popular peony garden wallpaper with a duck egg blue background earlier this year, and the result was freaking amazing! I’ve also always loved duck egg blue.  You’ve also probably noticed that blue is also filling our insta feeds at the moment, I think it’s an on-trend colour right now.  So, adding more blue, but keeping lots of pretty pink felt like the right move, but I wanted to do it with a brand new and exclusive wallpaper design.

How long does the wallpaper take to install?

The beauty of our wallpaper is that we custom make it to our customers individual specifications.  What this means is that our panels/ drops are larger than other companies who sell standard sized smaller rolls.  Our production and turnabout time is longer because all of our products are made to order, but there are less visible joins, and less panels to install, meaning it looks better and takes less time to install.  Feedback from stylists, who have also installed thinner panels, as well as our larger/wider panels is that they definitely prefer the larger panels, and that our wallpaper is the quickest and easiest they have ever installed.  Minnie’s wallpaper was a 4 drops wall, it took 1.5 hours to install.

What are your top tips for anyone thinking of a makeover in their kids rooms?

  • Add some wallpaper or decals – this seriously makes the biggest impact and makes the room feel instantly different. Decals are more cost-effective way, if budget is an issue.
  • Change up the bedding and cushions – such a cost-effective way that gives an instantly fresh feel.
  • Add some vintage furniture that you have upcycled – have you seen Minnie’s vintage wardrobe that we painted pink (Taubman’s Boston Rose) and added wallpaper to? It’s been one of the most loved things about her room on social media. I bought it for $70 off gumtree, such a bargain.
  • Décor is another way to bring in new colours – floor cushions, prints, cute keep sakes.
  • Move the furniture around – free and fun!
