REAL ROOM TOUR: Chilling with Tanner

There is no doubt about it… Tanner’s room is designed for chilling. Created by his mum, Rhilee Coghlan, this room stemmed from a vision that had been in Rhilee’s mind for years before it became a reality.

The muted tones combined with natural textures provide a perfect backdrop for this cool and calm haven for Tanner. Smart planning, and wise investment pieces will bring longevity to this room. A few tweaks here and there as Tanner grows is all it will need.

Tanner’s room is stunning example of the triumph in sticking with you vision and not swaying with the trends. What a pleasure to share it with you all here!

TELL US ABOUT THE OWNER OF THIS ROOM:

My little guy, Tanner, recently turned two and it felt right to give him a new room. Tanner is a really chilled, placid kid so it felt right to give him something pretty neutral and organic.

WHAT WAS THE BRIEF FOR THIS ROOM?

I wanted a room that I felt was going to grow with Tanner through the years. Something organic with the colour palette, timbers and soft greens. I wanted to give it a relaxed feeling but sill have child-like elements with toys, figurines and furnishings.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION FOR THIS ROOM, PERFECT FOR CHILLING?

I knew how I wanted his room to look since Tanner was a baby. It’s the kind of room I knew I would walk past and just smile. I wanted it to be a mature room but still suitable for a toddler. I would say I pulled most of the inspiration from the artwork.

HOW DID YOU SELECT YOUR COLOUR PALETTE?

I knew once I had picked the artwork I was using, this colour palette would just flow beautifully. Soft and inviting, perfect for a calming and restful space. I didn’t want anything too bold.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FEATURE IN THE ROOM AND WHY?

My favourite feature is the cosy reading nook. It features the beautiful Homeday bean bag. The acrylic shelves display the books perfectly, like artwork.

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

The biggest challenge was finding a suitable bed for the room. So many beds are so dates, or so feminine. We ended up having this bed made to order to suit the space.

After having no luck finding the perfect bed, Rhilee had this one custom made by Enfield Furniture.

WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL FAVOURITE THING ABOUT THIS SPACE?

My favourite thing is the calm and relaxed feeling I get when I walk in. The artwork paired with the linen, he timber elements and the tan bean bag. Everything came together exactly how I visualised it.
