Real Room Reveal – Inspired by Nature

Today we chat with Christine Rose who took on the task of designing and project managing a new family home whilst on maternity leave! The result is a relaxed, resort style home featuring this grey and blue hued bedroom with an Australiana-vibe inspired by nature.

We just love the use of treasures collected by Chris and her little boy on local walks, complimenting a neutral palette. It’s a theme that unites the kid’s zone of the home and a shared bathroom with his little sister – a design challenge that has been overcome with effortless style. Let’s take a peek!

The bedroom of Asher Rose, inspired by nature

TELL US ABOUT THE OWNER OF THIS ROOM?

“Asher is a very happy 3 year old. He loves to be outdoors exploring and collecting things or playing with our dog Harley. He has a great imagination, is very clever and he loves cars!”

WHAT WAS THE BRIEF?

“Asher is very active, and most of the time is bursting with energy. This is why when it came to his designing his room it needed to be a place for him to wind down, a restful haven to read a book or play with his cars.”

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION?

“I’ve used an Australiana theme – inspired by nature, the Australian landscape and natural materials. Our house is inspired by a relaxed resort-feel. This was something that I wanted to continue through to the kids-zones of the house.”

HOW DID YOU SELECT YOUR COLOUR PALETTE?

“I wanted it to flow with the rest of the house, so I selected pieces that were natural, earthy and textured. I wanted it to feel restful, calm and not over crowded with belongings. Clean white walls to showcase the things that we love. With just a few different shades of blue and grey hues to make the room feel a little masculine.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FEATURE IN THE ROOM?

“It’s hard to choose just one! I love his custom wooden name piece by Louie Lux on the wall, which Asher has had since birth. We found the dried up palm leaf together on one of our walks, so I wanted to use it in his bedroom to show him that things have multiple uses. It’s the first thing you see when you walk in his room, a real focal point.

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

Asher’s bedroom connects to a shared bathroom, so when decorating the kids rooms I had three doorways and two windows to work around! This meant that the positioning of the furniture was somewhat tricky and had to be functional.”

WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL FAVOURITE THING ABOUT THIS SPACE?

“I love having the double bed, even now my son is 3 years old. We can all fit in there to read stories at bed time! I also love having the Gathre mat on the floor (not pictured). It’s a space to read books, play with his cars and sit when we get dressed in the morning.”
