BEHIND THE BRAND: PIP + LENNY

Minty Magazine is proud to support small businesses like Pip + Lenny who possess a passion for sustainable fashion. Today, we had the opportunity to chat to Bec and Justine who are the co-owners of the uber stylish and ethical brand.

Their attention to detail and quality in all of their products is astounding. We promise you will absolutely love their beautiful and minimal designs!

For those who don’t know Pip + Lenny already, how would you describe your business and brand?

‘Founded by two mums, Bec and Justine, in 2017, Pip + Lenny was born with the dream to stock all the brands we love and adore in the one place. As friends, midwives and mums we fell in love with handmade products and vintage styling. All of our products are thoughtfully selected by us, in our homes, surrounded by the splendid chaos that is our beautiful children. We seek products designed with a focus on children’s comfort and a classic, clean aesthetic with vintage-contemporary style.’

The backstory to Pip + Lenny is lovely. Tell us more about how the two of you became friends and then business owners together?

‘We met in 2006 as fresh baby faced Midwifery Uni students ready to take on the world, we bonded over late night study sessions, take out meals and the usual Uni shenanigans. Both of us graduated and began our careers as Midwives until we both found ourselves on maternity leave and wanting to push ourselves into a new project – we now call Pip + Lenny.’

Tell us about Pip + Lenny the Label, your first collection. It looks absolutely stunning and we want to know the details!

‘Pip + Lenny the label was born out of love for natural fibres and beautiful designs that we are proud to put our name to. Something we wanted to offer our customers was ethically made, organic cottons to ensure their babies and children are dressed in beautiful garments to celebrate the innocence and most importantly, the beauty of children. The fabrics are Oekto certified dyed. This ensures we are offering the best quality and to play our part in sustainable fashion.

What is your design process when picking colours and styles for new products?

Our design process for this range evolved through our experiences over the last two years to create pieces we know will be loved and cherished by many. So, through dressing our own children we know which styles and fabrics we love but also know the importance of comfortable and practical pieces. It’s fortunate that we can bounce ideas off one another through the creative process. Of course, it certainly helps being mums of different genders.

In terms of the beautiful brands in store – our process for choosing stock is really quite simple. We fall in love and decide the pieces need to be on our virtual shelves. By doing this, it allows us to work alongside some amazing women. We ensure this process is straightforward and mutually beneficial and of course an enjoyable process for all.’

At Minty we are huge fans of natural and quality products and we know you are too! Can you talk us through your main mission as a business?

‘Fabrics, textures, quality and colour are something we are so passionate about! Ensuring our pieces are made from natural fibres is imperative to our brand as it is the best for your babies skin and also for our environment. Pip + Lenny are all about slow fashion and hope our pieces are handed down from generation to generation.’

Who are your go-to Instagram accounts for style inspo?

What do you find the most rewarding aspect of owning your own business is?

‘Having the flexibility and ability to work from home with our babes under feet is something we love. It’s a challenge, but we enjoy working within a business structure to create a store loved by our customers and the confidence we have gained through this challenging roles. Both of us are also so grateful for the amazing relationships and bonds we have formed with women along this journey.’
