REAL ROOM TOUR: MODERN COLOUR POP

You Give me Grace Modern Toddler RoomI love colour – I absolutely love it! So when this bright and modern toddler room came across my desk I was busting to share it! Lee Seaman of You Give Me Grace has created a beautifully colourful room for her daughter Grace. It captures the quirky fun and light of her daughter whilst providing practical play areas to engage a curious toddler. In my eyes a masterpiece I am delighted to share!

TELL US ABOUT THE OWNER OF THIS ROOM

“Grace is a quirky little girl who will be 2 in October. She loves when I read to her, especially when I put on funny little voices.  At 18 months, Grace had figured out a way to climb out of her cot (which she hated) so I had to go buy a big girl bed straight away. Maybe that was her plan because she loves her new bed and being able to get up and down when ever she wants. Grace also loves Playdough, painting and drawing. Most of the time drawing is done with two hands. That way you can colour the page twice as quick.”

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS:

“You Give Me Grace came to life shortly after my daughter was born. I needed a way to stay creative while being a stay at home mum. I would describe myself as an Art Director, turned mum, turned sweat pants stylist.

I team up with Jo Kim Photography for all my styled shoots, as she brings a skill behind the camera that is well beyond mine.

My style would be described as colourful and quirky. I love researching, drawing, making and of course shopping for beautiful products from around the globe and adding my flare to make the photos come to life.”

TELL US WHY YOU CHOSE TO ENGAGE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER:

“It’s hard not to when you are one :-)”

WHAT WAS THE BRIEF FOR THIS ROOM?

“I wanted to design a room that would engage a curious toddler enough to play, explore and have fun on their own. That is why there are multiple play areas in her room – drawing station, reading area and a toy box full of goodies to enjoy.”

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION?

“With any room design I start with one product I cannot live without. In this case it was a colourful painting from Tracey Mock. It combined all the colours I wanted for her room in so many glorious shades. I then created a mood board to make sure everything would fit together. This is such a great way to plus and minus products without having to purchase them.”

HOW DID YOU SELECT YOU COLOUR PALETTE?

“I always stick with the same colour palette, which are pink, yellow and blue. These colours may vary in shades from season to season but I find they always work well together.”

PAINT/WALLPAPER NAME & BRAND:

“Nothing yet, but on my list is the glorious wallpaper designed by Nathalie Lete ‘The Kingdom in the Roses’ and printed by Jimmy Cricket.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FEATURE IN THE ROOM AND WHY?

“I would have to say the reading area – It’s 3 simple shelves from Ikea that hold a dozen books that Grace uses every day.”

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

“I would have to say budget. With my line of work I see so many wonderful items I would love to include in her room but unfortunately the wallet wouldn’t stretch that far. Luckily there are always Birthdays and Christmas’s to keep working on her little space.”

WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL FAVOURITE THING ABOUT THIS SPACE?

“I would have to say the space surrounding her bed. Who doesn’t love super soft linen, an intricate bedhead and dreamy artwork.”
