Colour Me Happy

In this little girl’s bedroom, colour inspiration has been taken from a rainbow of pastels, interwoven with rattan and vintage pieces. Margaux Follis, the mama behind the lens at The French Folk has created a dreamy, light-filled room for her daughter Ambre. With her passion for all things design, vintage and DIY, she has curated a space punctuated by colour and a collection of decor items that sit perfectly alongside the rest of her home. A prolific creative, Margaux has drawn on her experience as an interior designer and now focuses her energy on raising her two girls, whilst juggling a thriving photography business and Instagram following. We take a peek inside Ambre’s delightful bedroom and find out a bit more about this special space.

Tell us a little bit about Ambre, the lucky owner of this room?

“Ambre is a joyful and clever three year old girl. She loves colours and all things craft so she requested lots of colour! We have a dedicated corner for her desk and all her things to draw, paint, play with her play dough and be creative.”

For those that don’t know you already, tell us a little bit about yourself and your business

“I am Margaux, born in France but I’ve been in Australia since 2014. Originally I started my Instagram so my family could see my first born growing up. But a few months later, it started taking off and slowly became my full time job. Prior to kids I was an interior designer, so I am absolutely passionate and obsessed with all things design, decor and DIY. This year I also started my photography business @thefrenchfolkphotography so you could say that I am busier than ever – but wouldn’t have it any other way.”

What was the brief for this room?

“For Ambre I wanted to create something colourful but with soft hues. At the moment, I absolutely love this colour combo – lilac, dusty yellow, mint, peach and pastel pink. I love mixing new and vintage and the school desk is a fantastic example of this, because it brings in different textures. And of course I love adding a bit of rattan in every room!”

What was your inspiration?

“Mostly the colour combination I mentioned! It’s quite 80’s inspired but I always include modern and vintage touches.”

How did you select the colour palette?

“Ambre wears a lot of these colours so there was plenty of inspiration. I included removable decals on the walls that I designed in collaboration with Minnie and Me interiors, so we can change things up over time.”

What is your favourite feature in the room?

“Ambre’s bed from Poppy’s Little Treasures is such a beautiful piece of furniture and can be transformed in a two seats and coffee table set. I also absolutely adore her vintage desk which I revamped after buying on Facebook Marketplace. It was in such bad shape but looks so cool now.”
