A Tropical Inspired Nursery for Charli

Creating a tropical oasis for her 10 month old baby became a labour of love for Tracey Zarowski of Henry and Co Interiors. When it came to designing her own daughter’s nursery, she was passionate about creating a space that was full of love and light. This tropical inspired room is filled with pieces that reflect their surroundings and a luxe boho vibe. Let’s take the tour!

TELL US ABOUT THE OWNER OF THIS ROOM

“This room belongs to my baby girl Charli who is a happy smiley girl. She loves the beach and is obsessed with birds so we wanted to add this into the new space. We had just moved into a new home and the room was very dark with blue painted walls which was not really suited to a baby girl’s nursery. For this reason, it was essential to brighten the space and make it a fun room that she could grow into.”

WHAT WAS THE BRIEF FOR CHARLI’S NURSERY?

“The brief was to brighten up the room and give it a tropical bohemian feel. I wanted the space to have a strong a neutral base, layered with textural elements and dusty tones throughout.”

We specialise in transforming single spaces or entire homes through renovating or re-decorating. We believe that beautiful homes are meant to be used by families making memories.”

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION?

“Having Charli made me appreciate how truly special a child’s first room can be. As a new Mum, I wanted to make sure that my little one was surrounded by love and light in her tropical themed nursery. The main inspiration came from the beach because we wanted a more luxe boho beach feel rather than a traditional beach theme.”

HOW DID YOU SELECT YOUR COLOUR PALETTE?

“Firstly, we started out with the floor rug which was sourced with the colours and tones that we liked and that became the base palette for the bedroom. We used Dulux Antique White USA as the wall colour and added in a palm tree wall decal from Tiny Walls and the birds from Little Rae.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FEATURE IN THE ROOM AND WHY?

“I’m torn between two! We found the natural palm leaf on a walk, which now features on the wall. It is a big feature and we always get so many comments on it. But I also love the palm tree decal over the bed because it’s just so fun and looks super cute over the cot.”

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

“The floorplan was tricky due to the number of furniture pieces we wanted in the space (cot/bookcase/nursing chair/tepee/storage/change table). So for this reason, we had to find the right pieces that would not only fit the space, but work in with the tropical theme.”

WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL FAVOURITE THING ABOUT THIS SPACE?

“As Charli has gotten older the tepee has become the favourite thing for her in the room. She now loves reading books in there and also loves hiding in there, waiting be found with a big smile on her face.”
